Northcoast Preparatory and Performing Arts Academy Review

Northcoast Preparatory and Performing Arts Academy opened in 2000 to serve students in 9th through 12th grades with a challenging college preparatory program with the focus on science and an international baccalaureate curriculum. The school offers a wonderful liberal arts and performing arts program, which is the main reason many families chose the school. The curriculum and the environment for the students are one that teaches core elements of our heritage as well as one that teaches respectful values. Parents are very pleased and excited with the way in which the school is run and the caring community involvement that is seen in the many activities the school offers.

The majority of parents stated that the school understands what it takes to engage students and produce life long learners. The school has a marvelous atmosphere with respect and acceptance for all students which is helping each student learn to live in our multi-cultural world with all its differences, stated a few parents. Students absolutely love attending school and doing much better than they were in previous schools.

The Academic Performance Index increased 7 points from the previous year to 887. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very proud that their students are exceeding the statewide goal.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was above averages across the board in all subjects and grade levels. This is another strong point that many parents express and another reason they recommend the school.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. Students at New Millennium Secondary school did very well with the exit exam with 97% passing the English exam with the state average at 83% and 100% in math with the state at 84%. Once again, a strong showing that shows the school is doing an exceptional job.

The school is providing students with an exceptional education. To ensure the curriculum and learning environment is right for your family you should take a tour and talk with other parents that have students enrolled.
