Nord Country School Review

Nord Country School opened in 2005 as a charter school to offer families a school with small classrooms as well as more personal attention. The school offers a curriculum that is based on core subjects but includes art, technology, drama, music, physical education, and environment education as well. The school serves students in kindergarten through sixth grades. The school focuses on instilling learning as a life long adventure and desires students to wonder, ask, explore, imagine and create. The student body is diverse with 50% Hispanic or Latino, 48% White, with smaller percentages of Asian and American Indian.

Many parents love the various subjects that are offered at Nord Country School especially the arts program that allows students to enjoy being creative through sculpting, painting, and drawing. Students expressed just how much fun school is and how much they like their teachers. Most parents love the country family feel at the school. The school offers a very safe environment with caring teachers and staff. A few of the older students expressed they would like the school to offer sports like basketball or cheerleading.

The Academic Performance Index inclined 8 points from the previous year to 758. The statewide goal is 800. Since it was only a small decline, the majority of parents are not concerned with the drop.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed with some doing better than the previous year but still showing up below state averages while 2nd graders were above average in both English and Math. All schools have up and downs, so most parents are not as concerned since their children are learning and enjoying going to school every day.

The school is providing students with the educational tools needed to succeed in a safe learning environment. If you have any concerns regarding the drop in the academic growth or the exam results, it would be a good idea to talk with the teachers and other parents to help you make a decision regarding your child’s educational needs.
