NEW (New Economics for Women) Canoga Park Academy Charter School opened in 2005 for grades Kindergarten through fifth. The academic focus is on the fine arts and science. The curriculum is decided by teachers, parents and the principal creating personalized programs for the students.

Parents are thrilled that this school exists. It cares for the entire family making sure that success hits home. They want their parents to be involved even asking for 5 hours per month to help volunteer at the school. This can be done through the extracurricular activities that the school offers like run cub or yoga club.

The Academic Performance Index showed an academic growth of 22 points for the school. Its score is 829, which is above the statewide goal of 800. Parents are very happy with this number and impressed with the dedication of the teachers and staff.

Almost every parent has had great things to say about the school including its teachers, curriculum and activities plus the test scores. What they are concerned with is the new leadership which some say has brought the school down. Even the students agree that the new leadership is causing problems. On the other hand, students are very happy with the curriculum and the many activities the school offers.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results showed that in each grade the children both excelled and fell below the state averages. The Math exam is where they surpassed the state scores.
