Mountain Rose Academy Review

Mountain Rose Academy opened their charter school in 1999 for students in 9th through 12th grades to provide an alternative to public school. The school offers a high quality education to help students achieve their goals with such programs as gifted programs with focus on technology as well as providing the tools needed for students to use their talents academically, socially, and creatively.

The school does not mention other activities besides core subjects, so you should learn more about extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs. The school may offer such programs but may not have them listed.

Parents and teachers alike offered a variety of comments on the school with one teacher explaining teachers do not stay at Mountain Rose Academy and one parent stating the school is done on computers with most students playing games all day instead of learning. On the other hand, one student said the school is perfect for anyone that does not conform well to traditional school as they can attend at the times best suited for them, which are 7am to 12pm, 12pm to 5pm, and 5pm to 10pm, and there are teachers present if you need help. Other parents also expressed their gratitude to the school, staff, and teachers that have helped their children graduate from high school with great grades in a close-knit learning environment.

To learn if students are mastering the core subjects and meeting state standards, it is always a good idea to check the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of exams. In order to graduate from high school, students in 10th grade must pass the exams. The percentage of students that passed the exam at this include was 60% in reading with the state average at 78%, in science 24% with the state at 42%, in writing 48% with the state at 68%, and in math 19% with the state at 60%.

The percentages of students passing the exam are quite low, so it would be best to learn more about the school before enrolling your child. You should talk with other parents, teachers, and staff to see if they shed any light on the reason the scores are below state averages across all core subjects.
