Mountain Peak Charter School Review

Mountain Peak Charter School opened in 2009 for grades Kindergarten through 12th. What makes this school unique is that each family can choose from home schooling or one of many different programs available.

With this school there are three options for learning. Home schooling is one option with individualized instruction and help at every turn. The network is big and parents stated they feel confident about teaching at home. Vista Learning Academy is for Kindergarten though 8th grades with both English and Spanish instruction time. Lastly is Home High School, which has online classes, independent online work, and college courses.

The opinion for Mountain Peak Charter School is mixed by the parents. Some stated that they loved the teachers that they have had the pleasure to work with and the opportunity to be able to work with their chidden with excellent instruction tools. Other parents are not happy with the director, the way the school has gone down over the years and how undereducated their children appear to be. Students have expressed the school offers a variety of learning methods that is helping them learn in a way that is best for them. Some parents even though they are not happy with administration, stated their children are doing wonderful at the school and talking about what they learn.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 760 to 798. The statewide goal is a score of 800 and the school is working to improve this score.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The students at Mountain Peak Charter School showed test results that were both above and below the state averages. For grade 2 43% passed their Math exam with the state at 64%. On the 7th grade Math exam 54% of students passed with the state average at 52%.

Overall, when you speak with parents you will find mixed opinions, however, with the test scores doing better than previous years the school is working to improve in order to meet state standards. It would still be in your best interest to talk with the staff and learn more about the educational options so you can choose the right path for your child.
