Montessori Education Centre Charter School – North Campus Review

Montessori Education Centre Charter School opened their North Campus in 2002 for students in pre-kindergarten through 9th grade. The school has 210 students per year enrolled. The curriculum is based on the Montessori philosophy, which offers individualized lesson plans, and self paced learning environment. The only extra curricular activities the school offers are drama and drawing. No sports or student clubs are available.

Quite a few parents stated they were very pleased with the teachers, staff, and administration that go beyond to ensure students are receiving the best educational tools available. The office staff is just as helpful and caring as the rest of the school employees. A few parents did express that the last few years the school seems to be not stepping up to standards and the curriculum and caring has gone downhill. The biggest compliant was not enough extra curricular activities or sports for students to enjoy. Students do enjoy going to school and those with learning disabilities are learning and responding better after attending the school.

When it comes to the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests, you see quite a bit of fluctuation. Third graders were above average in reading and math, but were 40% below state averages in writing. Fourth graders were above average in reading and science, but were below average in writing and math. Fifth and sixth graders were below average in all core subjects. Seventh graders were above average in all core subjects except for math, which was 20% below average. Eighth graders were quite a bit below state averages in all core subjects except for reading and they were just a few points above average.

From the comments of parents and the tests scored, it would seem the school does have a few issues. It would be in your best interest to speak with other parents and teachers to learn if the school is a fit for your child before enrolling.
