Metropolitan Arts and Technology High School Review

Metropolitan Arts and Technology High School opened in 2005 to serve students in 9th through 12th grades with a curriculum that surpasses traditional schools with an arts and technology based curriculum in a safe environment.

Along with core subjects, Metropolitan Arts and Technology High School offers a wide array of extra curricular activities, which include theater, drawing, sculpture, chorus, photography, dance, film production, and computer arts. Sports available are swimming, baseball, yoga, tennis, volleyball, basketball, track, martial arts, golf, soccer, and football. Other programs that students can participate in are academic contests, student council, multimedia, community service, yearbook, science & technology. One vocational program is offered which is technology.

Parents praise the school, teachers, and staff. They state the school provides a quality education while providing personal attention that helps students succeed. Students really enjoy attending school and the many options the school offers.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 588 to 646. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly below state average with a few exceptions like 45% of 10th graders passed the biology exam with the state average at 43%,

The school is doing a good job of providing students with the educational tools needed to succeed and the academic growth is improving. It would still be a good idea to visit the school to ensure the school is a good fit for your family and your child.
