Mercury Online Academy of Southern California opened in 2009 to provide students in kindergarten through 12th grade with an alternative to tradition school that blends online learning with in class instruction.
Along with core subjects, Mercury Online Academy of Southern California offers other activities for students that wish to participate which include sculpture, painting, theater, dance, computer arts, yearbook and science & technology.
Parents love the school and the personal attention that each student receives from the teachers. The teachers are very dedicated to providing a quality education for each student. Students stated they like the unique learning environment and caring teachers.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 651 to 627. The statewide goal is 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams that were available at this time was all below state averages across the board.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results of the exams were not available at this time.
Even with the comments of parents and students, since the results of the exams were not available except for a few grades, it would be a good idea to talk with administration to learn how many students are meeting the requirements for graduation before enrolling your child.
