Math and Science Success Academy Review

Math and Science Success Academy opened in 2008 as a charter school for students in kindergarten through 5th with an average of 77 students per year enrolled. The school focuses on scientific processes and math. Along with core subjects, the school knows the importance of social interaction and offers other activities including computer arts, band, drawing, chorus, orchestra, yoga, martial arts, physical education classes, yearbook, student council, newspaper, and science & technology.

All parents offering their opinion on the school had positive statements. They explained the teacher and staff are very caring and nurturing. The curriculum is excellent and their children enjoy going to school and want to learn. At one time, bullying was an issue, however, parents explained the staff took immediate interest to the problem and resolved the problem. The staff and teachers work with parents and students to ensure that are needs are met and that when a problem does arise it is resolved quickly. Parents are truly happy with the way the school stresses science, math, and see their children becoming involved and learning better than when they attended different schools.

Students at Math & Science Success Academy participated in the AIMS series of tests. These tests measure if students are mastering core subjects. The percentages of students that passed or exceeded the standards of the exam when compared to the state averages are as follows. Third graders were above average in reading and math but below average in writing. Fourth graders were below average in reading, science, and math, but were above average in writing with 100% passing the exam. Fifth graders were average in reading, above average in writing and math. Sixth graders were above average in reading, writing, and math.

From the percentages and the reviews of parents, the school seems to be doing an excellent job. I would still check out the school and talk with parents to be sure this is the best school for your child.
