Magnolia Science Academy – Santa Clara Review

Magnolia Science Academy opened their Santa Clara campus in 2010 for students in 6th through 12th grades. On average, the school has an enrollment of around 250 students per year.

The school provides a challenging standards based curriculum with small class size, free after school tutoring, technology blended education, advanced math and science program, college prep courses, and character education classes.

Along with core subjects, the Santa Clara campus offers extra curricular activities such as painting, drama, and computer arts. Sports available include basketball, physical education classes, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Other programs offered are academic contests, science & technology, debate, yearbook, student council, summer camps, robotics club, and Europe trips. The school offers one vocation program, which is technology.

Most parents expressed they like the teachers and most staff. The only complaint is the way in which administration provides management and the grading system. Most students are very happy with the school and enjoy attending.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decline in academic growth from 894 to 893. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average. The one below average was 7% of 8th graders passing the general math exam while the state average was at 32%.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results of the exams were not available at the time of this writing.

The school is providing a quality education for students, however, with the negative remarks regarding administration you may wish to learn more about the way the school is managed before enrolling your child.
