Magnolia Science Academy opened their fifth campus, Hollywood, in 2008 for students in 6th through 8th grades. On average, the school has an enrollment of just under 70 students per year. The small class and devoted teachers is the reason the school is a success.

The school offers a standards based curriculum with small class size, free after school tutoring, technology integrated education, home visits by teachers, computer adaptive test, advanced math and science program, college prep, character education classes, online grades and homework assignments.

Along with core subjects, the Hollywood campus offers extra curricular activities such as painting and computer arts. Sports available include baseball, badminton, basketball, physical education classes, softball, soccer, rugby, tennis, volleyball. Other programs offered are academic contests, community service, debate, science & technology, yearbook, newspaper, student council, summer camps, robotics club, and Europe trips. Vocation programs offered are technology and health careers.

Most parents expressed the teachers and staff are committed to every student and are very helpful. Teachers stay on top of the student’s progress and stay in touch with parents. Students love the school, teachers, and all the activities offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 786 to 843. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed with some close to state average and other above average. Examples include 7th graders in math had 70% passing with the state average at 52% and 74% of 8th graders passed the history exam with the state at 52%.
