Magnolia Science Academy opened their Carson campus in 2008 for students in 6th through 8th grades. The school works to inspire children to choose career paths in science and technology. The school offers a smaller class size which offers better teacher-student ratio.

Along with core subjects, the school offers computer arts, football, soccer, basketball, tennis, academic contests, science & technology and vocational programs in technology.

Parents are divided on the overall review of Magnolia Science Academy – 3 Carson. Some have loved their children’s teachers while others have noticed a lack of care or interest in the students. Parents also want the school to add an afterschool program to their list. Most students are happy with the curriculum; however, most are not as thrilled with the amount of extra curricular activities and sports offered at the school. Some students would like to see student council added along with other clubs.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 754 to 785. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results for the students at Magnolia Science Academy – 3 Carson showed mixed scores. Some were above the state average while others were below. For example in grade 10 9% of the students passed the Algebra II exam with the state at 42%.

For the California High School Exit Exam the students were tested in English and Math. Both subjects were passed with a score of 100%.

A glance at the results of exams shows that students are receiving a better than average education. For those that are concerned about the learning environment, a visit to the school should help you make an educated decision.
