Los Angeles County Online High School Review

Los Angeles County Online High School opened in 2007 to provide students in 9th through 12th grades the opportunity to earn their high school diploma while attending an online school. All classes are done online.

Since the school is completely online, there are no extra curricular, sports, or other programs for students to join.

The majority of parents are very happy that the school is available. Many of the parents stated their students had dropped out of school or were considering dropping out for several different reasons. This school provides their students with the opportunity to graduate and be ready for college or the workforce with personal lessons plans. Students are very pleased that they can go to school online and even work at a job while getting their diploma.

The Academic Performance Index was at 667. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams at the school was all below state average in all grade levels and all subjects.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English Language Arts exam was 78% with the state average at 83% and in math 72% with the state average at 84%.

For students that are not doing well in a traditional school setting, Los Angeles County Online High School is a welcome opportunity. In order to ensure the school is best for your child, you will need to decide if your child can do their schoolwork independently.
