Loomis Basin Charter School Review

Loomis Basin Charter School opened in 2008 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school is student centered which means they work with students on an individual basis to ensure each student receives the attention needed to reach their goals. The curriculum focuses on technology, math, and science.

Along with core subjects, Loomis Basin Charter School offers extra curricular activities, which includes drawing, drama, dance, orchestra, band, and chorus. Sports available are track, rock climbing, cross country, and physical education classes. Other programs students can participate in are science & technology, yearbook, newspaper, community service, and academic contests.

The majority of parents had nothing but positive comments for the school, teachers, staff, and administration. Parents are very pleased with the attention each student receives and the curriculum that is helping their children prepare for the remainder of their school years. Students really like the teachers but would like to see more sports offered like baseball and football.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 947 to 935. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams at Loomis Basin Charter School was above state average across the board in all grade levels and all subjects.

The school is providing a quality education in a safe and nurturing learning environment. For those that may have concerns if the learning environment is right for their family, a tour of the school should be taken before enrollment.
