Liberty Traditional Charter School Review

Liberty Traditional Charter School opened in 1999 to provide students with an alternative to public school that prepares students for the work force or higher education in our multi cultural society. On average, the school has 425 students enrolled in grades 1st through 8th grades per year. Along with core subjects, the school offers chorus, band, physical education classes, volleyball, basketball, football, and soccer.

Most parents are happy with the lower grades but express their concern over the higher grades with bullying being the number 1 problem. The teachers are very caring and nurturing in the lower grades as well but in the upper grades seem to ignore the students that need help or report bullying issues. One parent stated that both of her children hated school and she had to take them out and find a new school. Other parents stated the school is doing a terrific job and providing a quality education. One parent was not happy with the curriculum or the way her child was learning in 2nd grade, on the other hand another parent was very pleased with the 3rd grade teachers that worked with her child that could not read until attending the school.

A look at the AIMS scores may help you make an educated decision. The percentage of 3rd graders that passed the reading and math exams was below the state average while writing was the same as the state average. 4th graders were also below average in reading, science, and in math, writing was above average. 5th graders were above average in reading, writing, and math. 6th and 7th graders were above average in reading, writing, but were below average in math. 7th graders were above average in reading and writing, but below average in math. 8th graders were above average in reading, science, writing, but below average in math.

Before enrolling your child in the school, you should take a tour and see how the school runs during class. I would also talk with a few parents to learn how their children are doing socially and academically.
