Liberty Charter School Review

Liberty Charter School opened in 2008 for students in grades Kindergarten through 6th. The focus of the school is first is to have students excel in literacy and then become lifelong learners and productive members of society. The staff and teachers want the children to be the future of the community and that starts at the school.

Along with core subject classes, the school offers extra curricular activities, sports, and other programs, which include band, computer arts, drawing/painting, theater/drama, football, soccer, physical education classes, academic contests, community service, yearbook, science and technology.

Over and over again the teachers were praised at Liberty Charter School by the parents. Parents stated that the teachers are very caring and help each student succeed. The challenging curriculum was also mentioned with positive remarks. Students said they like the school and enjoy going to school.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 735 to 739. The statewide goal is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results for Liberty Charter School were mixed as some were above the state averages and some were below. For example, 17% of 11th graders passed their Chemistry exam against the state average at 34%. 52% passed the US History exam and the state average was 48%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. Those results were also a mix with the results above the state in Math and below in English.

With the positive remarks of parents and students, the school is providing a quality education. On the other hand, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents that have students enrolled as well as teachers to learn more about the curriculum.
