Legacy Traditional School – Maricopa Review

Legacy Traditional School opened their charter campus in Maricopa in 2007 and on average has 450 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 10th grades. The school offers a phonics-based curriculum along with a positive and nurturing environment. The school instructional model is based on high performing or gifted. Along with the core subjects the school offers extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs including band, orchestra, drama, photography, dance, computer arts, chorus, drawing, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, softball, volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, martial arts, physical education classes, track, tennis, gardening, debate, yearbook, student council, and science & technology.

Most parents stated the school is perfect for their children and that they are excelling. The curriculum used is the best in the industry as explained by many parents. Teachers are caring and attentive to the students. On the other hand, some parents expressed that administration favors certain students and does allow bullying. Bullying does seem to be a problem in some grades with at least two parents expressing their concern with the issue and removing their children from the school. On the other hand, most parents state their children have not had a problem at all with bullying and have never had a problem with teachers, staff, or administration. Parents also love that the food served at the cafeteria is mainly made from scratch offering a variety of fruits and vegetables.

A look at the percentages of students that passed the AIMS series of tests is impressive as well. The percentage of 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that passed or exceeded the standards of the exam was above average in reading, writing, and math. 10th graders were above average in reading and writing, but in math were below average by 10%.

Overall, the school does seem to be providing a quality education. However, since there may be an issue with bullying I would take a tour of the school and talk with parents before enrolling my child.
