Learning Works! Charter School Review

Learning Works! Charter School opened in 2008 for students in 7th through 12th grades. The goal of the school is for students who previously dropped out of school to complete high school through his or her school and its extensive academic programs. The school works mainly with at risk students.

Along with core subjects, the students are offered Community Works, which includes a variety of programs. There are some scheduled as events while others are by semester or every 8 weeks. Learning Works! Charter School does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

The reviews for Learning Works! Charter School show good marks from parents and not so good ones from students. Parents like that kids that drop out have somewhere to go. It gives them a second chance. The students said that they were not allowed to do homework and were given other work instead.

The Academic Performance Index showed an academic growth increase from 503 to 567. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results for the students at Learning Works! Charter School that was available showed lowered scores than that of the state averages.

For the California High School exit Exam, the students’ scores were also marked as lower than the state averages.

With the concerns mentioned in the comments from students, it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school and learn more about the curriculum before enrolling your child. The learning environment must be able one that will fit your child’s learning style if they are to succeed.
