Larchmont Charter School – West Hollywood Review

Larchmont Charter School opened their West Hollywood campus in 2008 for students in kindergarten through 3rd grades. The school bases their curriculum on the California standards while blending with sciences, the arts, and physical education.

The West Hollywood campus provides students with all kinds of extra curricular activities, sports, student clubs, and other programs. The extra curricular activities include drama, dance, chorus, orchestra, film production, and drawing. Sports offered are yoga, martial arts, soccer, football, field hockey, and physical education classes. Other programs include yearbook, student council, and newspaper.

Parents had nothing but great comments regarding the West Hollywood campus. One parent even expressed that her child had been in a private school previously and is doing much better after attending this school. Other parents are very pleased with the curriculum and say their children really enjoy going to school. Students stated the teachers are very nice.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decline in academic performance from 942 to 925. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was above average in all grade levels and all subjects even with the slight decline in academic growth.

The school is doing an exceptional job of providing students with the necessary tools needed to succeed as well as providing an encouraging learning environment. It would still be a good idea to take a tour of the school to learn if the environment is best for your child.
