KIPP Empower Academy opened in 2010 for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The school has a goal to add a new grade each year until they serve students through 4th grade. The school offers a curriculum that will help students be prepared for the remainder of their educational years.
Along with the core subjects students can choose from classes in drawing/painting, Spanish, physical education classes, and science & technology.
The reviews for KIPP Empower Academy are mixed. Parents expressed they are very happy with the extended school day that provides extra curricular activities along with the academic program focuses on college prep. Some parents stated that a few teachers could be rude and expect even kindergarteners to act like adults. Students stated they like their teachers in most instances.
The Academic Performance Index was not available at this time.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The results of the exams were not available at the time of this writing.
With mixed comments especially the ones regarding the teachers and no results available for any exams or academic growth, it would be in your best interest to take a tour of the school. You should ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel before enrolling.
