KIPP Bayview Academy Review

KIPP Bayview Academy opened in 2003 for students in grades 5th through eighth. The curriculum goes above and beyond to not only create great students, but productive leaders later in life. The curriculum focuses on a well-rounded knowledge, critical thinking skills and individual character traits to be successful. The students at the school are comprised 90% from Southeastern San Francisco, 73% African American, 16% Latino/Hispanic, 9% Pacific Islander and 2% Asian or other.
Along with the rigorous curriculum, students can also focus on a course in newspaper for school activities as well as what is happening all over the world.
Students love life at KIPP. On the other hand, some students stated that the hours were too long and there were not enough extracurricular activities. Most are very happy with the curriculum. Parents liked the challenging curriculum that prepares their students for the real world.
The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decrease in academic growth from 865 to 863. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The majority of the test scores at KIPP Bayview Academy showed mainly above average results. For example on the 8th grade Science exam 100% of the students passed with the state at 66%. Some scores were lower than average like 49% of 5th grades students passing their Science exam with the state average at 60%.

The school is doing a wonderful job preparing students for the remainder of their educational years in a safe and nurturing environment. The best way to learn if the school is the right fit for your child, you should visit the school and talk with parents.
