King/ Chavez Preparatory Academy Review

King/ Chavez Preparatory Academy opened in 2006 for students in grades 6th through 8th as a charter school. The school focuses on the highest potential students can achieve in academics, the arts and athletics. They proudly focus on these to offer quality education for students to become great students and caring adults.

For students at this school, they are offered more than core subjects. Extra curricular activities available include dance, drawing/painting, theater/drama, Cantonese, Spanish, soccer, yoga, student council/government and yearbook. Students can also participate in academic contests and vocational programs in construction/building trades, health careers, and technology.

The reviews of King/ Chavez Preparatory Academy showed some disappointments in the teachers as well as not enough activities to keep children entertained. A few parents stated that a few of the teachers are not supportive and the school does not offer enough extra curricular activities. Students stated the school is safe and bullying is not allowed, but there are no sports, which is a huge disappointment.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease in academic growth from 715 to 705. The state goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
For each grade and test subject the test results were below the state averages.

If you are a concerned parent about the results of the exams or may be wondering about the learning environment, you should contact the school for a tour and speak with other parents. This will help you make an educated decision on enrolling your child.
