Khalsa Montessori School Review

Khalsa Montessori School opened in 1999 in Tucson for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers a holistic approach to the learning experience. This allows children to learn and grow in a family oriented nurturing environment. The school offers instruction based on the age as well as the ability of the child to develop personal responsibility, critical thinking, real life skills, social responsibility, and to develop a love of the arts. The school offers a peaceful setting that works with the whole child. Teachers and staff work as a team to encourage communication skills, decision-making skills, creative thinking skills, self-esteem, self-direction, independence, and curiosity. Along with core subjects, the school offers band, drama, chorus, drawing, ultimate Frisbee, soccer, yoga, martial arts, physical education classes, and science & technology.

Parents expressed just how much they like the campus, teachers, curriculum, and staff at Khalsa Montessori School. A few parents were very impressed with the foods offered but can be a problem for some as the school does not serve meat and uses a vegetarian diet. Of course, peanuts and other nuts are not allowed due to allergies. The school even goes as far as not using refined sugar. Quite a few parents were happy with extra extracurricular activities that are mentioned above, as there is a charge for these such as yoga, chess, kung fu, and mad science. Students are very well adjusted and enjoy school and learning which is the best result parents could hope for their children.

Students participated in the AIMS series of tests, which is required by the state of Arizona for all students in public schools including public charter schools. The percentage of 3rd graders that passed the exam in reading was above state average while writing and math was below state average. 4th grade percentages in reading, science, and math were above average with 100% passing writing. 5th graders were above average in reading, writing, and math. 6th graders were above average in writing and math with 100% passing the reading exam. 7th and 8th graders were also above average in core subjects.
