Keystone Montessori Charter School Review

The Keystone Montessori Charter School opened in Phoenix in 1996. The school offers a unique educational environment that allows students to explore and interact while receiving the attention they need to achieve.

Along with core subjects, the school provides a variety of way for students to interact with their classmates including drama, painting, dance, chorus, computer arts, orchestra, band, football, softball, soccer, basketball, yoga, physical education classes, baseball, yearbook, and science & technology

What most parents did not like about the school is that most of the curriculum is based on factors in practical life, which means students spend quite a bit of time, cooking, cleaning and taking care of gardens and plants. Another huge complaint is the fact that administration is always asking for donations, which in the opinion of a few parents, those that donate receive special treatment. On the other hand, there are quite a few parents love the Montessori method of teaching and the attention their children receive to provide them with a quality education. All materials are readily available to all students and teachers truly enjoy working with the students. Students are happy and enjoy attending school, which is a major plus for most parents.

By looking at the percentages of students that passed the AIMS series of tests at Keystone Montessori Charter School it seems the school is doing a very good job providing students with the education they need to succeed. Third graders were above state averages in reading, writing, and math by 20%. Fourth graders did as well with 100% of the grade passing the exam in reading, 91% in science, 96% in writing and math. 100% of 5th and 6th graders passed the reading exam and were above the state averages in writing and math. 7th graders on the other hand were lower than the state average in writing, but above average in reading and math. 8th graders did the best of all with 100% of the students passing math, science, writing, and reading.

With such great scores, the school is on track to giving students the education they need to succeed.
