Jack H. Skirball Middle School Review

Jack H. Skirball Middle School also known as Alliance Jack H. Skirball Middle School provides students in 6th through 8th grades with a college prep curriculum as well as preparing students for their high school years. The school opened in 2007 to provide small class sizes with personalized lesson plans to help each student reach their goals. The student body is diverse with 74% Hispanic or Latino, 25% African American, and 1% unspecified.

At this time, Jack H. Skirball Middle School does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

The majority of parents expressed they are very happy that the school opened in their community and is giving their children a chance to receive a quality education. Parents stated that teachers and staff are very caring and helpful. Students really enjoy attending school and said the school is safe without any worries about bullying. The only complaint was the lack of sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 700 to 751. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Jack H. Skirball Middle School was all below state averages across all grades and subjects except for 8th grade science with 71% of students passing the exam and the state average at 66%.

Jack H. Skirball Middle School is doing a good job preparing students for high school and beyond in a safe learning environment. The exam scores are going up and the school is performing better than the previous years. You should talk with other parents with students enrolled if you have any concerns.
