IvyTech Charter Review

IvyTech Charter opened in 2010 to provide students with an education in the way they learn today by blending online classrooms with brick and mortar classes as well. The school utilizes the way in which students communicate today via blogging, YouTube, Twitter, and instant messages to ensure that students are technological advanced as well as receive the knowledge needed in standard based curriculum. The school serves students in 7th through 12th grades. With these types of options, students whether at risk or gifted have the same opportunities to succeed.

At this time, IvyTech Charter does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Most parents were very enthusiastic when it comes to the way the students are learning. Most were very impressed with both the online and offline classes. Students are happy with the curriculum, with some stating they can now work and still work toward receiving their high school diploma. Other students explained they would like to see sports or clubs so they can meet new friends.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 676 to 619. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at IvyTech Charter was below state averages across all grades and all subjects.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English Language Arts was 79% with the average at 83% and in math 72% with the state average at 84%.

IvyTech Charter is a different kind of school, which may not meet the needs of each student. To ensure the blended environments will meet your child’s needs it would be best to take a tour and learn more about the online classroom.
