Imagine School at Tempe Review

Imagine School opened the Tempe campus in 2006 offering students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grades with an alternative to public education. The school on average has 400 students enrolled, which means the school has small classrooms, which allows a more personal educational environment.

The school offers students a variety of extracurricular activities to allow them to learn teamwork as well as expand their talents in other programs. The different ways students can express their individuality as well as join teams includes basketball, flag football, football, band, chorus, ceramics, dance, computer arts, drawing, orchestra, drama, and film production.

The opinions of parents that have students attending this school are quite diverse. Several parents’ expresses their children were not receiving the education they needed to succeed and even removed their children from the school. One parent stated their child was behind by an entire year and had to retake the grade even though her daughter had been promoted to the next grade. Other parents on the other hand are expressing their loyalty and gratitude to the staff, teachers and administration. Some explained that the school is changing staff and teachers all the time in recent years, which has made the quality of education decrease.

If you look at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of testing, you maybe able to see if students are receiving a quality education.

The percentage of 3rd graders that passed the reading, writing, and math exams was lower than the state average by around 10% in each subject. Students in 4th did not do well with percentages in reading, writing, science, and math all below state averages. 5th graders were almost 20% below the state averages in the core subjects. Sixth graders were also below state averages in reading, writing, and math. 7th graders did just as poorly with math being below state averages as much as 38%. The percentages of students in 8th grade passing the exams was even worse with 39% in reading with the state average at 71%, in science 33% with the state at 63%, 0% in writing, and in math 17% with the state average at 54%.

With the negative response from some parents and the low test scores, it would be best to check out other schools in the area before enrolling your child in this school.
