Imagine School at Desert West Review

Image School opened their Desert West public charter campus in 2006. This gave students in the community the opportunity to attend a school other than the normal public school. The school offers small class size with emphasis on core subjects.

The school does offer sports for the students including soccer, football, basketball, cheerleading, physical education classes, and volleyball along with a few student clubs like yearbook and student council.

Parents are very pleased with the way in which their children treated at the school and the attention they are given by the teachers. Some expressed the school administration and staff is rude and do not answer telephone calls without repeated calls to the school. Other than administration, the reviews are very positive with students that are learning in a nurturing environment and becoming productive members of society.

The AIMS series of tests that measures if students are mastering cores subjects show students are doing very well at Imagine School at Desert West. Around 30% of 3rd graders passed than reading exam than the state average and were above state averages in writing and math as well. 4th graders did as well in reading, math, and writing, but were lower than the state average in science by almost 20%. More 5th graders passed all the exams than the state average. Sixth graders surpassed the state averages in writing and math, but lower in reading by 2%. 7th graders were lower in writing and math but only by a small percentage and higher in reading. Eighth graders on the other hand were lower in all subjects except writing.

The school provides a better than average education with caring teachers. It seems the lower scores are not that bad and are still better than the majority of public schools in the area. With the small community atmosphere that provides students with the attention they need to succeed, the school is providing an excellent alternative to the public school system.
