Helix High School Review

Helix High School opened in 1998 for grades 9th through 12th. The teachers and staff are supportive and dedicated to the success of each individual student as well as their journey to reaching his /her highest academic potential. The school also has a college prep program so that the educational success does not stop at the high school level.

This high school is focused on the core subjects, but the learning does not stop there. Other programs offered include dance, drum corps, field hockey varsity football, cheer, robotics cub, yearbook and ASB.

Helix is well liked by both parents and students. The parents are excited about how the teachers focus on the needs of each child and his or her academic strengths. The 90 minutes per class gives students the time they need to absorb what they have been taught. The students like the rigorous curriculum that can be quite challenging. The sports were also a highlight.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 786 to 805. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test scores showed mixed results. On the 9th grade Algebra II exam 77% of students passed with a state average set at 69%. For the 10th grade exam in the same area 31% passed. The state average was 42%.

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is used to test 10th grade high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. This school did quite well with 92% passing the English Language exam with an average at 83%. The Math exam showed an average of 84% and 94% of the students passed.

Helix High School is providing the educational tools students need to succeed. To ensure the learning environment is best for your child, you should take a tour before enrolling.
