Hardy Brown College Preparatory Review

Hardy Brown College Preparatory opened in 2010 for grades Kindergarten through 8th. The school focuses on the education and success of African-American students. The objective is to take students through high school, on to college and beyond including employment and community involvement achieving milestones along the way.

With core subjects and a rigorous curriculum, students are challenged daily. The school, day, year and week are all extended so that students are more successful than ever before. With debate, college prep and family involvement along with community functions Hardy Brown gives students all the tools necessary to achieve their goals.

Parents are impressed with how well their children are doing and how much better their grades have become since attending this school. Some parents are concerned with the long hours and strict guidelines. The students are pushed o their limits, but most get the results that come from all the hard work. Students did not have any complaints except they would like to see more sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase from 763 to 800. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results are quite mixed. On the Math exam the 2nd graders passing percentage was 87% with the state at 58%. For 4th graders there was a decrease with only 64% passing with the average at 71%. There was a slight increase for the 7th grade Math exam with 53% passing over the 52% state average.

Hardy Brown College Preparatory has great parent involvement. To some parents it may seem like a harsh learning environment but it takes hard work to succeed. Hardy Brown staff would love to sit down with you and your child to show you the benefits of the school.
