Hallmark Charter School Review

Hallmark Charter School opened in 1999 for grades Kindergarten through 12th. Hallmark is involved with both parents and students to create the best learning environment. There are individual learning programs with participation at both a traditional public school within the district and classes offered at the charter site.

This school is all about flexibility with its students and their core learning. That is why home classes and traditional classes are both offered. Music, art and science are the main focuses. The activities are extensive where students can choose band, computer arts, dance German, French, football, basketball, technology and even an academic decathlon.

Parents are impressed with the teachers at Hallmark and how their children have improved with their grades. The principal is well liked, art and music classes are great for their children and their confidence and the academics are strong and challenging. The disciplinary actions were stated as being too harsh.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 811 to 839. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results were pretty consistent with each grade showing improvement. On the chemistry exam 67% of 11th graders passed against the state at 34%. 56% of 8th grade students passed the Algebra I exam while the state average was at 49%.

The California Exit Exam tests 10th grade students in Math and English. Students here at Hallmark excelled. 100% passed in Math compared to 84% and on the English exam 97% passed. The state average was at 83%.

Hallmark Charter School shows parents what hard work, determination and dedicated students and teachers can do together. Talk with their teachers today and take a tour to see what you think.
