Grayson Charter School Review

Grayson Charter School opened in 1999 for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th. The school focuses on the core academic subject areas as well as other areas including creative expression and technology. Teaching with a bilingual emphasis is also a mission at Grayson.

Grayson does focus heavily on core classes, but changes it up by adding in technology for today’s modern world. They challenge their students to be as creative as they can be. The school loves its box tops contests, has a parent club, and offers talent shows and other activities for both students and their parents.

The test scores were a concern for some parents while others were okay with the results. They loved the staff stating that each child is given the same amount of individual attention. As for the bilingual offerings some parents did not like how the two languages were being learned one day and not the next. Students would like to see more extra curricular activities and sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 804 to 813. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results were mixed. While 82% of 5th graders passed the math exam with a state average of 65%, only 52% passed the science exam with an average set at 60%. As for the 2nd graders, only 52% passed the math exam, with the state average at 64%.

With the comments of parents, being mixed it would be a good idea to visit the school and talk with teachers as well as parents before enrolling your child.
