Grass Valley Charter School Review

Grass Valley Charter School opened in 1993 with classes available for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th. This school has a unique approach to giving students the ability to be challenged about their work over time. This process is challenging and does require multiple revisions, but in the end the highest quality is achieved.

This school offers 3 levels of learning: core academic, discovery studies which is for home schooled students and a preschool program. There is also Expeditionary Learning where teamwork and service are a main focus with self discovery as well.

The reviews of Grass Valley Charter School are great. Character building is a trait of the school and parents love that. Parents really do not have any complaints about the school and say that the leaning environment is fun and challenging. Students stated the teachers are very nice.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decrease from 861 to 850. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The 2nd grade students are above the state test results receiving 71% on the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 58%. The results were mixed for the 7th grade. On the English exam 74% passed with a state average at 62%, but on the math exam only 34% passed as compared to the state’s 52%.

Grass Valley Charter School is a great school that is striving each day to make their student’s lives better. The parents have no complaints. If you have any concerns it would be a good idea to talk with parents and teachers to get a feel of the learning environment before enrolling your child.
