Golden Valley Virtual Charter School Review

Golden Valley Virtual Charter School is an online school that tailors its curriculum to each individual student. This school opened in 2009 and is open to grades 6th through 12th. It is associated with Golden Valley Charter School. The purpose is to give students the freedom of online learning in their own homes with parents closely monitoring progress.

This school is all about teaching independent learning. In doing so, students become more independent in their social and educational lives. The scheduling is flexible, but with a rigorous curriculum with learning as the number one priority.

Parents love the fact that this school is so flexible. It also helps to create a strong parent/child bond. The independence factor is also quite important because that teaches each student that they can learn in a unique way and do things at their own speed. Students love the school; however, they would like to see other activities that would allow them to enjoy such things as sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease from 824 to 781. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. In 9th grade, the students had a passing rate of 46% on the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 57%. For the 11th graders 59% passed the US History exam and the state was at 48%. On the English Language Arts exam, the results were 75% against the state at 48%.

Golden Valley Virtual Charter School does give students the opportunity to be independent. Schedule a virtual tour today and see if this type of learning will fit your child’s educational needs.
