Gold Rush Charter School Review

Gold Rush Charter School opened in 2001 for students from kindergarten through 12th grades. This charter school approaches education on an individual basis that also offers a home-school program for parents that are seeking that type of education.

This charter school offers a unique education option that fits all types of parent/student situations. Parents can choose from a home education with a qualified teacher, independent study or classrooms located in adjacent counties to the school itself.

This is a country school that has unique offerings of garden courses as well as an animal department, insects, milk/cheese making and energy studies. Core classes are also offered as well as electives like drama, photography, technology and a writer’s workshop.

Gold Rush Charter School is the best is what the parents say. The classes are small, more focused and with many field trips each year, both parents and the students love that. The kids are the main focus making individual learning a top priority.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase from 669 to 735. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The CST results are mixed for the school. In the English Language Arts Exam 59% of 2nd graders passed compared to a state average of 58%. 3rd graders on the same exam had a 33% passing rate with a 48% state average. For 8th grade students 50% passed the science exam and the average was set at 66%.

The California State Exit Exam was given to 10th grade students and showed mixed results. 85% passed the English Language Arts exam with a state average of 83% and 75% passed the Math exam with an average of 84%.

Gold Rush Charter School is great at giving each student a unique ad personalized learning experience. The test scores are a work in progress and students and parents are striving each day to get the scores up. Overall, the school is providing students with the tools needed to succeed. It would still be a good idea to talk to teachers and staff before enrolling your child.
