Glendale Preparatory School Review

Glendale Preparatory School opened as a charter school in 2008 and has an average enrollment of 265 students in 6th through 12th grades. The school offers a college preparatory curriculum that is based on a traditional liberal arts education. The school does not offer any type of electives but a large array of subjects that will challenge and excite students.

The unique method used in the classrooms is the Socratic Method which is used to have students think more and discover outside the box along with providing a liberal setting where students can truly consider all opinions and come up with their own answers and results to life’s issues.

The school offers very small classrooms sizes with 1 teacher per 15 students. The school has high expectations and expects students to perform to the best of their ability while preparing for college or university entrance. Along with core subjects, Glendale Preparatory School has extracurricular activities and sports the students can participate in if they choose including chorus, band, photography, drawing, drama, orchestra, football, basketball, baseball, cross country, volleyball, soccer, softball, and track. Student clubs available include yearbook, debate, and science & technology.

There are mixed reviews regarding the school, but the majority of parents have reported positive experiences. The school is demanding as is the workload. Most parents are very pleased with the curriculum and the way the students are learning classics and basic educational needs whereas some parents are not as happy with this type of learning. The students must work hard in order to stay on top of the rigorous learning environment; however, teachers are very helpful to work with students if needed. The school has created a blend of sports, clubs, and other activities for students that desire to join in and become more involved with their classmates.

The students at Glendale Preparatory School did very well in the AIMS series of tests when compared to state averages. The percentages of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th graders was higher than the state averages in reading, writing, science, and math with more than 90% of students passing or exceeding the standards set forth by the state of Arizona.
