George Ellery Hale Charter Academy Review

George Ellery Hale Charter Academy opened in 2011 to serve students in grades 5th through 8th. This charter school provides a strong academic instructional program within a safe and dedicated environment. Students reaching their fullest potential are the academy’s goal.

The core subjects at George Ellery Hale Charter Academy focus heavily on business, humanities, community and technology. Students also has after school programs like tutoring and Boy’s and Girl’s Club. Leadership classes, youth services and fundraising projects are also available.

George Ellery Hale Charter Academy scored mixed reviews from former students and parents. Overall, the teachers were well liked even though a few were not liked at all. The academic program offered at the school was seen as what is best there. The current students loved the student store and the variety of clubs that are available throughout the school year. What they did not like was how some teachers had ridiculous rules and the food.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase from 838 to 845. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. In 8th grade the tests results were pretty consistent. In General Mathematic 63% passed with a state average of 32% and on the Science exam 79% passed with a state average of 66%. Algebra I was higher with 90% of students passing as compared to a 49% state average.

This school is focused on their students and each one’s individual growth. The test scores can always be better and they are striving each day to obtain that goal. A tour of the school is an ideal way to talk with the teachers and see if George Ellery Hale Charter Academy is a fit for your prospective middle school student.
