Gateway Middle School opened in 2011 with a focus on grades 6th through 8th. The school offers a college prep curriculum to help students get started on the right track to think about their education and future. Here the focus is on the individual student and what their unique talents and strengths are instead of the core curriculum. The staff helps with college goals, but also what is in store for the student’s middle school and high school goals as well.
The core subjects at Gateway include humanities, reading, science and reading. Students are also introduced to summer programs as well as after school programs for tutoring of core subjects as well as partner programs like a Jewish community center called Club 18 and The Western Addition Beacon Center. Sports offered include volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer, and track.
Gateway Middle School comes highly recommended by both parents and students alike. Parents like the attention of the teachers and their kids want to go to school every day. The teachers are seen as dedicated and go above and beyond what is expected so that each student gets what they need to have successes in every level of their academic career.
The Academic Performance Index showed results of 850 as no other data was available to compare it against to show an increase or decrease. The Academic Performance Index is also a number that you can consult the school about to see where it stands against other California schools.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The Academic Performance Index is also a number that you can consult the school about to see where it stands against other California schools. These types of tests are not currently administered to any of the grades at this school.
The school is doing a great job at getting its students not only interested, but also excited about their academic future. The staff wants you to come by for a tour and talk about the school, past test scores, its mission and its curriculum. They would be happy to share their plan for your child with you.
