Freedom Academy North Review

Freedom Academy North opened in Scottsdale in 2009 as a public charter school for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers small classroom sizes with teachers that work with each student to ensure they achieve their goals. Along with providing a learning environment where students can excel at academics, the school offers extra curricular activities for those that wish to participate including drama, painting, chorus, dance, band, computer arts, and sports such as physical education classes, basketball, cheerleading, and football.

Parents expressed they like the school, teachers, and administration. The school offers the same great learning environment and attention for each student. The close knit school allows students to know all the teachers as well as the teachers knowing all the students by name. All parents and students only had good things to say about the teachers and school. A few parents did express their concern that funds for the school seem to be more important over the last few years instead the quality of education the school is providing to students.

The AIMS testing scores are impressive as well. Percentages of 4th graders that passed or exceeded the standards of the test was 72% in math with the average across the state at 63%, in reading 73% with the state at 71%, and in science 91% with the state at 61%.

5th graders on the other hand did not do as well with only 38% passing or exceeding the test in math with the state at 58%, in reading 62% with the state at 72%, and in writing 62% with the state at 74%.

7th graders did not reach the state averages with 45% passing or exceeding the exam while the state was at 57%, in reading 55% with the state at 77%, and in writing 73% with the state at 88%.

Since the percentages are lower in the higher grades, it would be in your best interest to learn more about the school and why the scores are lower than state averages. There are a few concerns with the school mainly due with the administration, so you should take a tour of the school and talk with parents before enrolling your child.
