Forest Ranch Charter School Review

Forest Ranch Charter School opened in 2008 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school provides a different learning experience from what is found in traditional school settings offering online courses, block classes, cooperative classes, small group instruction, and contract instruction with participating schools or a business.

Along with core subjects, the school offers electives, which include creative play, dance, cooperative games, multi cultural exploration, guitar, gardening, and a variety of after school sports. Field trips are a huge part of the learning experience found at the school providing students with a hands-on learning adventure.

The opinion of parents was positive stating that the school works with students on a personal level to ensure all needs are met. The learning style is catered to the way in which each child learns, thus ensuring that no child is left behind. Parents expressed that the teachers are devoted and work closely with parents and students. Students really enjoy the field trips and hands on projects.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 851 to 866. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Forest Ranch Charter School was above and below average according to the grade level and the subject. Examples include 25% of 3rd graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 48% and 81% of 4th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the average at 67%.

The school showed a huge increase in the academic growth even though some grades and subjects were below average; the school is providing a quality education. To learn if the school is a good fit for your family you should speak with teachers and learn more about the curriculum and learning environment.
