Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy Review

Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy is a public charter school that opened in 1996 for students in 7th through 12th grades. The school offers a fine arts education as well as providing leadership skills to help students become productive members of their community. The school offers technological learning environment while partnering with universities, businesses, and art agencies to provide a well rounded education.

The curriculum provides independent study using an arts theme. The school utilizes block scheduling and does provide special programs for students with learning disabilities, health impairments, and emotional behavioral disabilities.

Along with core subjects, Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy offers extracurricular activities including orchestra, band, dance, chorus, photography, sculpture, painting, and drama. The only sport offered is Ultimate Frisbee. Other programs and student clubs available include yearbook, community service, academic contests, newspaper, and student council.

Students expressed the school is one that offers a caring and nurturing learning environment that helped them reach their goals. Parents stated that their children now want to go to school and are doing better in all classes even those they were having a hard time with prior to enrolling in the school. The school is of course on the artsy side but does provide a well rounded curriculum that is challenging, engaging, and demands students to be creative thinkers.
