Excel Education Centers – Prescott Valley Review

Excel Education Centers opened their charter school campus in Prescott Valley for students in 9th through 12th grades in 1997 with an average enrollment of 120 students per year.

Excel Education Centers including Prescott Valley are known for providing computer based science, computer based math, project based English, serving learning, multi-age classrooms, and on site special education. The school provides internet access, counseling services, community fund raisers, a multimedia computer center, renaissance program, library, recreational activities, crisis invention, campus awareness project for Excel, along with student clubs such as student government and yearbook committee.

Overall the school does not receive good ratings from students that express the courses are not challenging as they could be and there needs to be more extra curricular activities. Parents have noted improvements in grades since attending this school.

Students at Excel Education Centers at the Prescott Valley campus participated in the AIMS series of test which is required for high school students to be able to graduate and receive their diploma. The test is given during 10th grade. Percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam are listed below.

In math, 15% of 10th graders met the standards with the state average at 51%, in reading 50% met the standards with the state at 64%, and in writing 56% with the state at 58%.

The students also participated in the SAT9 and TerraNova tests.
In reading, 9th graders scored 39 with the state average at 42 for the SAT9 and scored 32 with the state at 51. In language, for the TerraNova the score was 27 with the state at 50. In math, for the TerraNova the scores were 40 for the school and 50 for the state. It would be in your best interest to learn more about the school by talking with staff, teachers, and other parents that have students attending the school due to the low testing scores.
