eScholar Academy Mineral Charter School is an online as well as brick and mortar school providing students in kindergarten through 12th grades with a standards based curriculum via serving learning, mentoring, technology application, cooperative learning, performance, presentations, and project based. The school opened in 2002 to provide families with an alternative to traditional schools with a self-paced personal lesson plan that can be achieved at the school or online. The school also provides dual courses for high schoolers to take college courses while working toward their high school diploma. The study body is comprised of home schoolers as well as at risk students.
The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs at this time.
Parents are very pleased with the curriculum and the helpful staff and teachers whether students are learning at home or at the school. Parents that home school, stated the teachers and staff have worked with them to ensure the success of their children. Students in all grades expressed how much they enjoy attending school at home while others stated they like the facility. Some students stated the have been able to complete college courses while in high school which makes them want to work even harder. Some students expressed they would like to see a few extra curricular activities and events so they could meet other students.
The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 646 to 632. The goal statewide is a score of 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at eScholar Academy Mineral Charter School was not available for most grade levels. The high school percentages were below state averages
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students that passed the English Language Arts exam was 76% while the state average was 83% and in math 61% with the state average at 84%.
