Equitas Academy Charter School Review

Equitas Academy Charter School opened in 2009 to provide an alternative to traditional schools while providing students with a college prep curriculum. Beginning in elementary school with a college prep curriculum provides students with the opportunities to attend a college prep middle and high school as well as helping prepare them for their college years. The school serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The student body is diverse with 93% Latino, 5% African American, and 2% Asian, with 85% being English Learners.

Students have the opportunity to learn not only core subjects but the school also provides enrichment teachers that teach dance, art, yoga, or theater. The school does offer an after school program for students that wish to participate.

The majority of parents expressed they are very pleased with the progress they are seeing in the children not only academically but also socially. The teachers are very dedicated and provide all the necessary attention for students to learn in a nurturing environment. Students said they really like the teachers and the kids at the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 882 to 868. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Equitas Academy Charter School was above average in all grades and all subjects, however, not all grade percentages were available at the time of this writing.

Equitas Academy Charter School is a good alternative to traditional schools by providing a college preparatory curriculum and setting for students. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will thrive it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school prior to enrollment.
