Environmental Science and Technology High School Review

Environmental Science and Technology High School opened in 2009 to provide an education for students in 9th and 10th grades that are underachieving and low income. The school prepares students to enter college as well as succeed. The school has small class sizes and dedicated teachers that work with students on a personal level.

Along with core subjects, Environmental Science and Technology High School offers extra curricular activities, which include debate, drama, G3, Gay-Straight Alliance, Journalism, STEP UP (Women’s Mentoring Program), Student government, UCLA Saturday Business Academy, and Young Gentlemen Club. Sports offered include soccer, softball, baseball, and cheerleading.

Parents were positive when it comes to the school and teachers. Parents expressed their children love school and even though there is quite a bit of homework that their children do not seem to mind. Most have noticed a change for the better once they enrolled their child in Environment Science and Technology High School. Students explained that teachers are understanding and do not look down on them when they have a question. Other students stated they feel safe at school and are not having issues with bullies.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 886 to 871. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Environmental Science and Technology High School were above average across all grades and all courses.

Overall, the school is providing an exceptional education that is helping students prepare for college and beyond. With the comments of teachers and students, the school offers a safe and nurturing learning environment. It would still be a good idea to visit the school and take a tour prior to enrolling your child.
