Environmental Charter Middle Review

Environmental Charter Middle opened in 2010 to provide students in 6th through 8th grades with a small and nurturing learning environment. The school offers a college prep curriculum that will allow them to attend a college preparatory high school. The school aids in helping students with the transition from elementary to high school. The school offers unique programs along with core subjects such as Literacy Lab, Mathematics Lab, MESA, EmpowerHer Institute, SJLI, Urban Scholars, and Green Ambassadors.

At this time, the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Parents commented they are glad that the school is providing such as exceptional education for their students that is preparing them to attend a quality high school. Most parents agree that teachers and staff work together to ensure students receive the best quality education. Students stated they really like the teachers and other students are friendly. The small class size makes it easier to make friends as well as receive the help from teachers.

The Academic Performance Index base level is 743. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Environmental Charter Middle was below average across all grade levels and subjects except for 7th grade English Language Arts with the percentage of students passing the exam at 63% and the state average at 62%.

Environmental Charter Middle is providing students with an alternative to traditional schools. In order to make a decision if the school is the best learning environment for your child, you should visit the school and talk with other parents that have students enrolled.
