Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center Review

Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center opened in 2001 as a charter school for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The school works with parents to help create personal instruction plans for their children while providing all the necessary tools for students to learn at home.

The school does not offer extra curricular activities as a traditional school but does provide a variety of electives at the facility as well as several field trips and other family activities throughout the year.

Parents expressed that the school and teachers are very supportive of their decision to home school their children. Parents and students alike both stated they enjoy visiting the school for lunch, the family camping trips, field trips, and the opportunity to participate in science fairs and other competitions.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 732 to 715. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center was both above and below average. Examples include 58% of 4th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 67%, 68% of 5th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 60%, and 40% of 8th graders passed the history exam with the state average at 52%,

Results for the California Exit Exam were not available.

The school is providing parents with the educational tools and resources to provide their children with a quality education and one that works with the whole child. To ensure that home schooling is the right avenue for your child, it would be best to speak with administration and teachers before enrolling your child.
