Education for Change World Academy Review

Education for Change World Academy opened in 2005 to provide families with an alternative to traditional school for students in kindergarten through 3rd grades. The school provides underserved students with the opportunity to receive a quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. The school offers a challenging core curriculum that encourages problem solving and critical thinking to prepare students for the remainder of their educational years.
The student body is 89% are Hispanic or Latino, 4% African-American, Asian or Pacific Islander 3% and Caucasian 2%.

At this time, the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

The majority of parents expressed their gratitude to the school, administration, and teachers that provide a quality education. The school offers a safe learning environment with caring teachers. The only negative response from a few parents is the parent center. Students expressed they like their teachers but would like to have sports, clubs, or other extra curricular activities to join.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 822 to 805. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Education for Change World Academy was mixed. Examples include 59% of 2nd graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 58% and 63% of 3rd graders passed the math exam with the state average at 69%.
