Edison-Bethune Charter Academy received their charter in 1999 and provides an alternative to traditional school settings for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school provides an integrated curriculum that provides more instructional time, personal instruction, and an intensive use of technology. The school provides educational opportunities to a multi-cultural and diverse student body with a large percentage of students coming from low income and middle income families in the area. The student body is 63.1% are Hispanic or Latino, 31.4% African-American, Asian or Pacific Islander 3.3% and Caucasian 2.3%.

Along with core subjects, Edison-Bethune Charter Academy provides extra curricular activities including drawing, drama, sculpture, dance, chorus, computer arts, band, orchestra, and film production. Sports offered include football, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, gymnastics, physical education classes, softball, volleyball, track, wrestling, and Ultimate Frisbee. Other programs students can join are science & technology, debate, multimedia, community service, yearbook, academic contests, and student council.

The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Edison-Bethune Charter Academy was mainly below state average, but only by a small percentage. A couple of examples include 63% of 4th graders passed the math exam with the state average at 71% and 65% of 6th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 59%.

Edison-Bethune Charter Academy is doing a very good job of preparing students for the remainder of their educational years. Parents and students alike stated the school is great.
