Dobson Academy – A Ball Charter School Review

Dobson Academy – A Ball Charter School opened in 1998 in Chandler with an average enrollment of 590 students in grades kindergarten through 8th. The school offers a curriculum as well as a learning environment that empowers students with personal responsibility, good character, and tolerance of others.

Along with the basic subjects Dobson Academy offers extracurricular activities including chorus, band, computer arts, painting, sculpture, and drama. Students can also join clubs of interest such as debate, community service, science & technology, student council, and academic contests. Sports available at the school include basketball, track, softball, baseball, physical education classes, cheerleading, football, and cross country.

Parents are pleased with the curriculum especially the Singapore math program. Parents expressed the caring and nurturing environment teachers provide as well as providing students with the attention they need to excel in all levels of their educational training. The teachers are warm, caring, and want each child to attain their goals. Teachers are willing to work with gifted students and provide them challenging schoolwork as well as work with special need students to ensure each one excels. Some parents are not happy regarding students required to wear uniforms while teachers are allowed to wear what they please. On the other hand, some parents and even students are happy with the uniforms that help with peer pressure.
